It's an interesting subject to think about. To say that "nothing" existed before the big bang seems wrong. If true nothingness existed, then nothing would have happened; as King Lear said: "nothing can come of nothing." On the flip side of that lies the inevitable notion that in order for us to exist, then something must have ALWAYS existed. It seems counter-intuitive, but I have a sneaking suspicion that it must be true. Even Einstein said that "energy cannot be created or destroyed," and as far as we know, he was right. If energy cannot ever be created or destroyed, then it must have always existed.

Neil Degrasse Tyson led an interesting discussion on the topic of "nothing." There were several thought-provoking moments. Check it out whenever you are not distracted.

Alright so I haven't made up my mind to the full about this topic yet.
However I found the things of Michio Kaku really interesting and he's actually one of the leading physicists sharing his thoughts with the world.
So there are many videos from him and I just picked an enjoyable one:

Just for people like me who feel that they haven't digged deep enough yet to contribute to a wholesome discussion :)

there is zero universes and this is all a dream of god's...or we live in a multi universe....from what I understand of things we know. there is our two choices
nothing else will work mathematically...either 0 or multi verse...no one wants too believe we live in a simulation, soo most go with string theory

Actually, if you are religious then this is in a way (lack of a better word) a simulation. When your "simulation" gets "terminated" (AKA death) then your consciousness remains (AKA soul) in another unprecedented existence.

Don't get it confused though, this isn't like The Matrix or a computer program, but similarities do exist... (Again for the religious individual)
