One tenet of many religions is our ability of free will, to make our own decisions on whatever we see fit to.
On matters religion covers outside the observable universe though, it obviously requires faith beyond evidence, and science can run parallel because of this divide. Science doesn't really care about "outside the observable universe".
But, because there's also so many people that extend this metaphysical reasoning into the physical world, and because the human ego loves being right, we see religions as being adaptively backward.
