This would definitely change humanity, but not for the better. Pretty soon, people would get lazy and then lose any purpose they had. Then they'd realize they don't need to have children and just start a whole mess of selfishness.

that doesn't even make sense

synthesizing heavier elements is a nuclear process not a chemical one

You're right.

There would have to be a wholesale shift in ethics and an authoritarian state would be perfect for just such an event to transpire (albeit forced).

However, this thread is just mucking about in that sense so I wouldn't take it that seriously :P
