Even if it did hit, it wouldn't be a world killer, a lot of it would still burn up in the atmosphere, and it would most likely hit in an ocean somewhere because most of the Earth's surface area is ocean.

In the small chance that it did hit land at high velocity, it would probably take out an area of 100-500km, and perhaps cause some issues in the surrounding area. Most of the surface area of the Earth's land isn't populated anyways.

If it hit in a major city, it would be a pretty big killer.

But to be honest with you, I think there is something coming long before that which is going to wipe man off the face of the Earth.

Not at all.

I suspect I would still be required to go to school

I dunno Torm, I agree you should live everyday as if it could be your last day, but something comming long before this to wipe man off the face of the Earth? There is no legitimate Basis to honestly make that statement.

A 400 foot wide asteroid is hardly a threat. Maybe to someones house or a small town? lol.

Well they did say that the Tunguska Object would have been similar to this size, and it leveled forests in Russia, but it still wouldn't be a huge killer.

The year 2040 though? Right now the year is 2012.

That can only mean one of two things: 1. Either you are planning to become a School teacher. 2. Or you are just plain stupid and you need to repeat every single grade 3 times in your School career.

To be honest I didn't consider the date when entering in my mild mannered joke.

Thank you for, yet again, taking everything too far.

For all of the known objects which have close approaches, as well as how many close approaches they will have and the cumulative probability that each will hit the Earth (i.e. 1 minus the odds that it won't in all those approaches), see this link:

we have no need to fear this asteroid because we are tracking it. by 2040 we will have better solutions than a gravity tractor or nuke to offset tits course. both of which might actually work today with some luck.
