just want to make something capable of charging some walkies in the woods.
walkies have rechargable batteries that sit in a holder when charging, holder plugs into wall.

please, i dont need a solution like get a car adapter.

I'm assuming your battery is 12 volts, you said it's an atv right? Well if it doesn't have a cigarette lighter then you can buy what i showed you, cut off the plug at the end and hard wire it to the battery with a switch or something. If it doesn't have a plug that fits into the radios, then you can probably get one at radioshack or somewhere.

If you don't like that solution, the end result you are looking for is to convert the atv's battery power to 9 volts 200 Ma, so you'll have to research another way to do it. a common power inverter that hooks directly to a battery would allow you to plug the radio's current plug directly into it, but to me converting it from dc to ac back to dc is just stupid.

so if im converting it back n forth, cant i cut out the middle man? (ie.power inverter) and hook it straight to batter?

and i am almost sure my atv battery is 6?

you can't hook it straight to the battery because the battery is the wrong voltage. Just find out for sure what voltage your battery is and what voltage your device needs, then google search a dc to dc converter that will reduce the amps as well. 200 Ma is milli amps which means your device needs 0.2 amps I wouldn't recommend going over that or it will reduce the life of their rechargable batteries.

grindtime what myenemy is saying is you dont want to connect it directly to the battery because it will give it to much power at one time. batteries used for starting vehicles have a large amount of power. they are not ment to be used to charge most other batteries.

you could hook it to the battery but you will need something spliced into the wire to tone it down to the correct power to charge the batteries. not sure what it would be. not all that electronic savy. your probably best option is to buy something that does what you want.

they're right, you need a converter. you'll blow out your device if you connect it to the car battery.
