Do you guys even know why it's bad, or do you just post because you've seen numerous posts simply saying "its bad" and have no clue to why it is?
The beats, (I'm talking about The Beats Pro since they are the flagship model) have it's pro's alongside it's cons:
Pros'
- Stylish
- Comfortable
- Good Bass
- Relatively light for such a bulky set of cans
- Status Symbol
- Relatively easy to drive
- Good isolation
Cons
- Lackluster Highs
- Mediocre Mids
- They are on sale at Amazon for $368, overpriced by about 200 dollars
- Steep steep competition
- Overall they are upper low-tier headphones being sold at an upper mid-tier price
You could get a pair of AKG K702's, which are upper tier reference headphones for $268
Simply said, the beats are good for a selective music group; Rap/Hip-hop, RnB, Electronic as these genre's rely on bass to capture their songs. And even then, you'll be noticing the bass prominently because Monster has done something to these pair of cans that makes the low and bass sounds rattle in your ear, and every other pair of headphones you'll hear with afterwards will seem like they suck since the bass isn't trembling like the beats.
So if you only want bass, then go ahead and buy these pairs. But if you truly appreciate music, then you know that bass is not everything. A more balanced pair of phones like the AiAiAi TMA-1's will show a balanced sound in all categories of music, meaning you'll notice mids and highs in sounds. And even more simplified, you'll hear new sounds in songs you haven't heard.
I've browsed around here for awhile to notice that no one knows what the fuck they are talking about when it comes to audiophile related topics, go check out head-fi.org for actual information. Don't get intimidated by the people there, they may have 8 pairs worth more than your car. But they know their shit
I don't know jack about headphones or audiophilia? I lol'd.
Just saying "good bass" has a pro in the beats means you don't know anything, except maybe if good bass for you is boomy bass. Oh well.
And bass is a BIG part of music, but bad bass (as in beats) will ruin it. Good bass doesn't mean "LOTS OF BASS", it means tight bass, with impact, and the correct amount of it, which is not present in the beats.
I don't even want to get started on the mids/highs of the beats, especially that they are overwhelmed by the too much present bass.
P.s. They are not good for electronic, you need good mids and highs to fully appreciate electronic music (I'm not talking about pop electronic music)
The thing I rant on with beats is that they are REALLY overpriced, and their price you can get really good headphones (open one such has HD-650, AKG-701, grado sr-325) or really good closed headphones (Shure SRH-940, Denon dt-990)
The other thing is that annoys the shit out of me is that a lot of people think they are really good headphones and that you can't really really better.
It's not normal that my IEM around that price blows the beats.
P.s. It's really arrogant attacking open everyone in this topic when you don't even know them.
By the way, what headphones, speakers have you tried and do you POSSESS? I'm really waiting for an answer to this.
