well we have broken the speed of light with a microwave labyrinth some years back.

but i really did think they proved that speed of light can not be achived by anything with a mass?

So did they...

no it was photons traveling like 3 mph faster than the speed of light
if it was an atom i would be reeling but alas it has no mass..

They even claim it is an six (!) sigma signal. But keep in mind that such appearent standard model breaking 'facts' produced in such complicated experiments always turned out to be wrong. And this is not breaking news at all, there have been tons of 'faster-than-light-neutrinos' discoveries in the past, and of course all of them turned out to be wrong due to wrong measurement or interpretation. It is very likely that they screwed something up in their calculations, again.
The most reliable methods to calculate neutrino speed are based on supernova observations. These clearly indicate that neutrino velocity is lower than the speed of light, since neutrinos have non-zero mass.

It's interesting, but there have been suggestions that the speed of light itself varies with respect to the density of the universe, which is not uniform (hence, in a sense, our existence). Of course, just after the Big Bang, expansion happened WAY faster than the speed of light, so for quite some time it's been known that the pseed of light isn't an absolute speed limit ;) However, this news is still interesting, because I doubt many people expected this result.

they get around that by saying space itself was expanding. its you walking on one of those lil horizontal escalators they have at airports. you still walk at the same speed but go faster because the space your on is moving too

And the fact that mass when it closes in on the speed of light has time slowed down around it so even if we relativly see something traveling "faster" than the speed of light, it itself is not moving at that speed, but just under 186,000 mps
