I think the soul is how you are, depending on your past and the life is the way you live now using all that.

Easy. Soul is the term religious people use to define the chemical reaction in the brain that makes the counciouness.

life is the consciousness of the physical.
the soul is consciousness of the meta-physical.

in general , the soul is that part of a life form that gives it animation
in other words , whats the difference between a dead animal with no physical damage , and one that is alive ?
that difference , is whats called " the soul " ( as a general term , not a colloquial one )
