second hand smoke isn't filtered like it is for you when you smoke

It's also not concentrated and you only inhale a very small amount if you're not smoking a cigarette yourself.

Second hand smoke is a myth.

disagree. ive smoke cigarettes since 1994, now i smoke 1 pack per day. when i go to a bar that allows smoking i get a headache and wake up feeling like shit. it is definately from the second hand smoke. i was very upset when the smoking ban hit my town, now i love it. i smoke much much less and enjoy taking the time to go outside to smoke. i do hate having laws telling me wha i cannot do, but fuck it.

A myth supported by an overwhelming amount of evidence and basic logic.

You are exposed to two forms of second hand smoke. First is side stream smoke (pure smoke off the lit tip of a cigarette. This naturally contains the most carcinogens). The second is mainstream smoke which is what's exhaled by the smoker.

Both are bad for your health. Both are noxious to the passerby. The more you are exposed to obviously the worse it is.

The only way you can attempt to deny second hand smoke is that if you believe cigarettes cannot and do not even cause cancer in the first place.

I believe that 99% of people who complain about second hand smoke don't inhale nearly enough of it for it to have a negative effect on their overall health. Being in a bar that allows smoking for 2 hours isn't going to turn your fucking lungs black.

People just need to grow up and stop being little bitches about cigarette smoke. If you don't like it, go somewhere else. Simple as that. If people are that worried that they are going to die from second hand smoke then I suggest none of them ever ride in a car again in their life, because that's way more dangerous.

One two hour instance of second hand smoke might not do any long term damage.

But a lifetime of regular exposure to secondhand smoke very well may. And it's especially wrong if that person doesn't doesn't want to be exposed to it while they're walking into work, or moving from class to class on a campus but are forced to regardless.

Walking through a cloud of smoke for a split second as you enter a building isn't going to do shit to your lungs. Even if it happened five times a day for the rest of your life it wouldn't do shit. You trollin?

Easy solution to that problem anyway. Make it no smoking within 20 feet of an entrance/exit. Problem solved. There's no reason to ban smoking.

Smoking was banned on my college campus but fuck that I walk around with cigarettes on campus on the time. I'm going to smoke a cigarette when I have 4 classes in a row. Whenever the campus police tell me to put it out I just tell them that I'm almost done with it and keep walking. Just because smoking is annoying to some people doesn't give them the right to outlaw it.

I was only in favor of the door thing, and inside public buildings. I'd also be thrilled and more likely to spend money at businesses that chose to ban smoking in their establishment.

At the very least the split second inhalation certainly isn't doing you any favors. And seeing that it's a well known carcinogen when it comes to rules I don't have any pity for smokers who don't take others into consideration. It's a little like intentionally passing a ton of gas with somebody right next to you. Except it sticks to your clothes and is known to cause cancer.

You will not get cancer from the smoke you inhale every now and then as you walk into a building. That is a fact.

http://www.cancer.gov/cancertopics/factsheet/Tobacco/ETS#q4

Second hand smoke is a carcinogen. If you inhale it, even infrequently, it will increase your susceptibility to cancer. Even if only a little bit.

Sure, the smaller the amount you inhale the lower the risk. But it's still an increase in risk that you incur.

When it comes to getting cancer, I'd like to lower that likelihood to as close to zero as possible and I will go out of my way to do it.
