Sup guys.

I decided to make this thread to discuss the badassery of the Linux operating system, and all (closely) related open-source freeware distributions.
Hopefully we can inform some JSPers to give linux distros like Ubuntu a shot, particularly on older desktops and netbooks.

I'm somewhat informed on using ubuntu, linux mint (which is an ubuntu derivative), and I'm just trying out debian and fedora.

Secondary topics worth discussing in this thread are handhelds that run linux, such as the OpenPandora project or the GP2X/32 or any other arm-based Chinese knockoff tablets. I get a kick out of those.

I am also looking for information related to linux gaming and anyknown potential there. Compared to Windows, I've had a limited gaming experience on ubuntu, though the games freely available in the software center like Battle for Wesnoth are really badass. I consider the biggest limitation of the typical linux operating system to be gaming, as the vulgar demand it. As far as office suites, messaging and networking, downloadable content (>9000), relative ease of use, boot speed, hardware adaptability, low hardware requirements, customize ability, strength of server distros, music and video players, and online support, linux (more specifically, ubuntu), pretty much reigns supreme.

Just use Dual boot and switch to windows when you want to game. Linux is a great OS for what it is made for.

I didn't read the full thread, but I suggest all who want to start with Linux get Mint.

I love Linux, right now I'm dual booting both Linux Mint and XP SP3, because I just don't feel like Virtual Box'ing and all.

Linux Mint is a regular aesthetic masterpiece.
What do you think about their latest (somewhat metallic) theme?

Mint is ubuntu based, which should work with wubi. Never used wubi, but I'm sure that ubuntu forums have thousands of answered queries and maybe a dozen guides on it.

It's really pretty and I prefer to use it for music because I like the way it organizes it. That's pretty much it.
