IcedShard, from what i've read, the earth goes through a certain phase that happens every 26k years, when the sun is aligned with the center of the galaxy. once it crosses this line, magnetic forces would cause the earth's poles to shift, possibly resulting in doom and death, or whatever. it's said that life on earth could be "resetting" each time this happens. this video might explain it better.

Keep in mind there are a huge number of things the calander "predicted" that never happend.

there is no equator of the galaxy in the sense there is one on earth, yes there is a line that if we cross we should be in a different part but the galaxy it self doesn't have a huge magnetic field that if we cross things will turn like water in north vs south hemisphere on earth, the only thing in 2012 to be concerned about is the natural cycle of the sun and its elevated activity in 2012, but it wont be enough to cause earth quakes or volcanoes the earths inner core is well protected by earth magnetic field and atmosphere i think its only 1 billionth of the particles actually reach the surface let alone travel threw all the rock to the molten core. the only possible threat would be some satellites going off line and the extremely weak electronic gird being overloaded and causing some black outs

the solar cycle that is the issue is a 11 year cycle so we lived threw it in 2001, 1990, 1979, there is nothing to say we wont live threw it in 2012

There is some evidence there but none of it is conclusive and none of it is strong enough to really put the red alert button on. For example, there is a 1 in 40000 chance that asteroid Apophis will collide with the Earth in less than 20 years (No I'm not quoting Enter Shikari). NASA's 'IRAS' (The Infrared Astronomical Satellite) detected a large heat mass at the edge of our Solar System, it is said that Planet X (Nibiru) is a brown dwarf star (unignited star). This would explain the altering of planets orbits. It is also said that this 'Nibiru' has a very elliptical orbit, coming very close to the Sun. There's loads more to support 2012, but I'm not going to write a book for you. Go research it yourself.

Anyway, what evidence there is, isn't very strong evidence. I suggest you take precautions just incase there IS an apocalypse. However, you should always be ready for an apocalypse imo, especially one of the nuclear kind.
