We cannot be devolving as the concept is nonsensical. Whether you think humanity is becoming less fit, its called adapting to survive better in our current society. The other way devolution is used is to describe when a species returns to an ancestral form ie homo sapiens sapiens to homo erectus, which is impossible.

There's no such thing as 'devolution'.

Now, 'Intelligent Annihilation', on the other hand...

It's just about adapting to your enviroment and if your enviroment changes to the way it was 1000s of years ago you will also change.

This. But not "you" personally. If the environment changes drastically where you cannot survive, the entire species will die unless some find a way to survive. It would then take a long time to evolve and change to survive the conditions.

I live in a part of the U.S. where the deer population is extremely overwhelming. Hunting is banned in this area so no one can kill them. There are so many of them there that even the weak and dumb ones can mate to produce more deer with the same disadvantages. This could be considered happening to the human specie as well. There are so many of us, and no real natural threat, so the weak and dumb have a chance to pass off their stupidity to future generations...

I don't consider it devolution, more of an overpopulation crisis.

Pretty much this.

Also there are less people with "wisdom" teeth, suggesting that some form of evolution is happening in the current day. Clearly we needed them for something before, now as we dont they are not always present.

we can only hope science will get to the point where personal genes can be modified during pregnancy and eliminate genetic disorders.

Actually this may not be a good thing. If this happens then humans will show little to no diversity and what fun is that? if humans do get to this point, which we are probably very close, it most likely would suck.

Read the book: The Cure by sonia levitin :)

Fiction, but describes this situation. with no diversity.
