If an advanced civilization makes contact with us, it will be one of two scenarios: 1, they are peaceful and we become galactic allies... and 2, they are out for conquest, and they want our resources. Either way, I truly hope it happens soon.

all irrelevant if you are trying to draw similarity between humans and any other intelligent being. there are other thought patterns than ours ya know.

He also said if he had a time machine, the first thing he'd do would be to visit Marilyn Monroe in her "prime", and Galaleio.
Everybody knows he just wants to bang Monroe.

But on a side note, its pointless. If we know about them, and they're more advanced then us (We could find some planet only in like the stone age or some shit), then they already know about us.

When he compares what our first encounter would be like to Christopher Columbus he's assuming the alien species is driven by human motives.

My english class actually had a discussion on this (it's a sci-fi lit class) and we decided that the discovery channel took it out of context and tried to make it more controversial that he meant it to be because we also watched his TED video talking about the same subject and in the TED video stated that since the universe is so vast it's possible that aliens exist but it is unlikely that they are within (he gave a number but i don't remember) lightyears away from us or else they would have made contact with us by now

same thing where he said first contact is more likely to be with a machine than a species right?
