Don't get an Acer or Gateway.

Hp is pretty good.

Sony's nice, but you pay for the brand name.

Mac's are nice.

Why no acer? I was thinking about getting one because my buddy uses one and he says he can play D2 and do other stuff with no problems. I was also thinking about the hp but it's a little more expensive.

Acer's are fine... I'm using one, only cost me about $500 a few years ago and it works great.
The graphics card isn't very good though... so games like WoW are playable, but you don't get a very good framerate.
For d2... any laptop can run that :P

I'll most likely get an Acer then. I don't want to have to spend any extra money on programs though.

$500 wouldn't get you anything decent where I come from... Though it is mainly your internet that will cause problems. I was on dial up and couldn't do a Baal run because I would dc even if I stood at the far back corner, I swapped to a better net with the same computer and had no problems at all.

I'm going to be buying a laptop soon so I can do my online classes and play Diablo 2. Is there anything specific I should look for? I don't want to be dropped from games and experience lag because of my computer. I'm kind of looking in the 500$ and under range too. Any help is appreciated, thanks.

Check out the system requirements for D2.

Its like 200 mhz and 256 mb of ram. Basically anything you get can run it, and lag will be because of internet/bnet and not your computer.
