Well, people have been saying that about every technology since forever.

He's right. You're never going to buy a phone that makes you breakfast in the morning and waits by the bathroom to wipe your ass with a wet paper towel.

Shit's about as useful as a phone can be.

Maybe we will. tongue.gif

In all seriousness, given 10-15 years, I'm sure we will come up with some new ideas. I can't really think of anything at the moment, besides switching on home appliances remotely, but I'm sure that someone will come up with something that no-one has thought about.

Yeah, that's a definite possibility. We might decide that physical money is too "cumbersome" and opt for something which is easier to use, i.e. virtual money. It sounds a bit farfeteched, but you honestly never know. tongue.gif

you're making much more of this concept than it actually is lol
it's just like an alternate method of paying by debit, not a virtual currency

I think the cameras will also improve, and not just the phone itself but also things like network bandwith so you can call eachother with video, I mean when this is the only way of calling.

Also things like voice recognition software so you can text with just saying the word, and that it can be converted to text.

Also that they will put more and more functions in the phone, like GPS for example.

Also the ability to surf on the web on a GPRS network (just like an UMTS laptop card), that this would be as normal as calling people.

The ability that your home network can be controlled by it, so that you can use it as remote for the TV, garage door, car, lights.

Better security where you need your fingerprint (or IRIS scan or voice w/e) to unlock it.

And all the functions accesable with your voice and a touch screen.

I'm not saying this won't happen but it would require EVERYONE to have a phone and have them all be compatible with each other. I actually had this discussion a few months ago with my friends when we were talking about the debit card version of Monopoly. My main point was how easy to take out my wallet and hand somebody $10. The transaction begins and ends within a few seconds and there is no chance for an error to occur with any electronics. The money will never get lost in limbo because of a poor connection or buggy software. Anything that replaced it would have to be available to everybody. This includes 5 year olds buying their lunches at school and so forth.

On topic, I think phones will continue the route of the iphone and just cram as many customizable features in it as possible and ideally improving the signal strength/quality all around the world. I refuse to get AT&T however the major appeal of the iphone is the mentality of "this is all I need to do everything while I am not at home." Especially as an MBA student who is probably going into marketing/sales management after I graduate. I really appreciate the ability to email from my phone. As an assignment while I was an undergrad, I had to spend a day with a sales rep of a company and I chose to do it with the sales manager of a local science supply company. He got 87 emails on his blackberry from 8:00AM to 5:30PM. This is truly the direction I see it going. The scientist in me (my BS was in physics) says "it's never enough to be content".
