count the number of intersections with the sticks.
first row first box has 1 intersection, second box has 2 intersections, third has 3 intersections
second row the first box has 2 intersections, second has 3 intersections, and the third has 4 intersection
third row same pattern

I think they made a mistake, in the bottom row the square should be in the middle(answer d)

Basically it looks like the squares are being shifted to the right, upon reaching the border they reappear on the other side
