Bought an iPhone 6 off of craigslist for $150, owner locked it a couple weeks later, not sure how they did it as my sim card and everything was inside it already.

Is there any way to recover it? I'm about to file a police report, but not sure if I'd lose the phone in the process. Prefer keeping the phone and not being bricked.
My friend told me it's something called icloud locked, it's popular for "insurance fraud" where apparently the owner can get insurance money for the iPhone.

noper its forever on the stolen banned phone list unless you went to court and won a fraud case or something lols.

i will never ever ever buy a used cell phone from a stranger because it's too damn shady.

also they don't lock up your sim they lock up the phone itself based on its serial number and stuff like that.

cool, at least that.
Yeah, I messed up big time. I met at the guys "house" but noticed he was hanging in the parking lot, never actually came out of his house. I just felt so complacent because he showed me his ID and his phone had the same name.

edit:
Will file a police report and hope that apartment has security camera which captured his car and face. Maybe I can find some pro bono lawyer for it who's against iCloud stuff.

In my experience most lawyers won't touch this because judges tend to look at these cases like you are being a crybaby even though your money and time is as good as anyone elses.

i've had this happen to two people in my family and the local authorities don't take this shit seriously because they have "Real crimes" to deal with. apparently theft isn't theft if it's just your smartphone.....................................

If you look at the individual case it's of course petty, but when it's a consistent "practice" by people... I don't see how lawyers don't see this as a class action suit against apple for that faulty insurance process.

edit:
But then again, 100% of my friends who became lawyers have become assholes in the sense that they only look at people as piggy banks. Even the ones that originally were "hippies"

yep its pretty much why i have zero issue with being a criminal by todays standards. i mean seriously how am i supposed to feel bad about that bag of stolen skittles when companies like VW pull the shit they do lols.

i wish judges and lawyers would take their roles more seriously but in these times we are fine with judges treating us with bias simply because we jobs and can't take the time to dress up for traffic court over a seat belt ticket you forgot to pay because it was a $20 ticket on a hectic day 29 days ago and lawyers treating us like we did it no matter the truth.

fuck being right in this situation tbh. american legal system is absolute garbage.

i have to watch my bro spend all his money on a lawyer over claims against him i know are absolutely 1000000% false. you know what option he has? not one.

so now the money he saved for his young child is gone because he is in a relationship with the sister of one of his teenage girl ex's and she wants to hurt him for it.
