So I'm trying to wrap my idea around why I keep getting hounded for blood...

I am ab- which means I cannot donate my blood to pretty much anyone ... but apparently there's something in my blood that is useful so the Canadian blood society calls me regularly to donate ...

What I dont get is what they want ... if they can't use my blood to save a life other than other ab negative patients

hmmmm I guess someone who is also ab- needed your blood..... you are not the only person in the world with ab- bro

some whole blood for the rare ab- recipient
but my guess would be that they want to get your plasma
ab plasma is for plasma transfusion what o- is for whole blood transfusions
so for plasma you are the universal donor

I have A+ which is common. But they still called me twice daily til I changed my number.
They are just bloodhounds, donate once and they continually harass you in what I consider an immoral fashion.

Yeah, I agree about plasma. AB plasma is universal, and it's quite likely they just run your blood through the apheresis machine.
Besides, they call everyone. I have B+ blood and I get regular calls (sometimes automated, sometimes an actual person) asking for another donation. I've donated 13 times so far.

Might want to also consider that donating blood is the only way to remove excess iron build up in your blood, although i don't think iron build up is really a big problem.

If you've already donated once before, it's normal.
They have your info, and they will call you up for more, like every one or three months.
