I know this could be a thread for the TV subforum but it really belongs in this sub imo.

I love the show, i know its scripted, i know its mostly BS, and i know its not based on sound archaeological practices. I dont care.

Oak Island has been a curiousity of mine for a lone time, the biggest problem is most of the serious excavations took place decades ago, or even centuries ago.

I know they likely wont "solve" the mystery, but this large scale of an operation is bound to turn up more clues than previous excavations.

Anyone else excited for the return of the show for S3?

Well let me be clear, I think that Oak Island as an area, is worthy of serious research. But i of course understand that in the current History channel meta this specific show is nearly all for entertainment. If there weren't scripted in setbacks or overhyped moments people wouldnt sit through the commercial break, i get that. BUT I think there's a good chance that this band of misfits will actually stumble upon some clues. And as the place has been closed to serious excavations for a few decades I'm happy someone is breathing life into the situation.

The funny thing is in a "money doesnt matter" world we could solve the mystery instantly. Drill holes, sink pikes, fill pipes with cement, and you have the beams to build a reliable shaft that everyone has problems with in the sandy water logged soil. The problem is thats a many million dollar operation, and the local govt may not allow it based on the effects to wildlife.

Even if there is no buried treasure worthy of a "National Treasure 3" sequel its still an incredibly interesting area anthropologically. Artifacts from indigenous populations to 16th century Spanish coins have been found on the island. Hideouts for sailors, likely what we'd consider pirates, have been 100% confirmed in the area. And minoan artifacts have been found in Nova Scotia. It all points to "something" happening on Oak Island, whether it was Minoans sailing farther than we thought, pirates burying treasure, or simply pirate traffic that spawned the legend the claim is not baseless, and it's surely not a "hoax" in the traditional sense of the word. If it was a hoax the hoax goes back 250 years at least, probably more.

6 have died IIRC. prob more but thats the "legend".

I think that the treasure, if there even is one, is buried beneath the swamp. No on has yet been able to dig in the swamp however, as it refills with sea water as you empty it.

Man i remember back when history channel actually played good stuff. It still does on really rare occasions but it always seem to be at crazy hours like 4am.
