well it depends what kind of science, i believe it took newton something like 78 pages in the principia mathematica to prove that 1+1=2, so its about that thorough though.

the scientific method. Its about disproving things. It'd a self regulating thing as well, as science knows it can be wrong and infact in some ways strives for thar because it wants to arrive at the truth. Where other things differ is the approach at the truth. Science is about emperical data, testing etc. It values objectivity. While others say that we might never find out the real nature of things ( and perhaps be right) science still tries to approximate it. What makes science different is that its evidence you do not have to believe. Its there regardless. Even asking the question "the science behind science" you've already set out to determine the answer in an objective sense (that is you want an answer that is essientally an answer that can be taken universally and requires no faith in because it can prove itself).
