I personally don't know. I don't believe in psychics, but can't of course say they 100% don't exist.
Try to seriously consider the fact that maybe you allowed the present to influence the past, and remember things differently.
In other words you may have had a dream with somebody in it, and molded your memory of their image to that of the new student once you had met/seen them.
Perhaps in passing you heard about a new student and it was in your mind.
Very often cases of supernatural things have roots in people convincing themselves that something else happened when it did not.
Sometimes a very reasonable explanation is overlooked in the excitement of a more interesting explanation.
I've had things in the past that seem so compelling, so real. Generally they go way back to childhood memories like you have said.
But as an adult I can now look back and realize that there are much more reasonable explanations for things that happened, dreams that seemed real, etc.
If you're into reading, I suggest Carl Sagan's "The Demon Haunted World".
Whether you agree with me or not, it's a good read and it never hurts to learn about an alternative way of thinking/approaching things like this.
