I think science attempts to explain the 'hows' of reality whereas religion and spirituality might attempt to ascribe meaning and answer the 'whys.'

Not entirely sure if this fits your line of questioning...

No, you are wrong. Science explains/will explain the 'hows' and the 'whys'. Also, often 'how' and 'why' are closely related.

I doubt science will explain why the fundamental constants of this universe are the ones they are, or why are things just the way they are.
