thats very interesting. id like to see how they carry out their metabolism because one of the reasons arsenic is so poisonous to humans is because the body mistakes arsenic for phosphorous and it fucks up the chain of reactions needed to carry out bodily functions.

I believe they have grown them on normal agar already but eventually replaced the phosphorus with arsenic. They were able to survive with trace amounts of phosphorus. These amounts were small enough to not sustain other organisms

I am dissapoint, i wanted to hear about alien bacteria.

Still very interesting though, who knows what other things life can survive on.

in this case its not only what things can survive on, but rather what they can live without. these bacteria live without or with very trace amounts of phosphorus because they are able to have arsenic replace it. no other known microbes can live on the amount of phosphorus as these do.

In short, nothing particularly big. We just increased the set of possible planets to find life on.

this has been a long time coming

i caught a documentary about a lady from nasa doing test on bacteria surviving in a pond that was like 95% arsenic

its neat thought it means that life evolved on a 100% separate tree then the all know current life forms on earth
