Let's say if there's a tablet pc with 5400 RPM 640GB vs 7200RPM 500GB and the 7200RPM one is $5 expensive than the other one, which one would be worth getting? ALL the specs are the same except those two. I'm not a computer engineer so I don't know the RPM difference of 1800RPM will make when hard drive read files so any suggestion and comments are welcome.

From my limited understanding, RPM will allow faster accessing and manipulation of data. However, since it's on a tablet PC, you also have to think about battery life, since higher RPM drives use more power.

I don't know how noticeable the difference is but I guess if it is only $5, I personally would go for it.

RPM means revolutions per minute. It is meant to show how fast seek times are on your media. If you make some ratios from your RPM numbers you can pretty easily compare speed.

the battery life really is not a big deal b/c both models have the same battery life (as they claimed) and it's Intel Core i3-330 UM Processor (1.20GHz)
I guess it's good idea to just go with 7200rpm since I can always hook up flash/ehd if I need more space.

If you're rich and there's a solid state option, you could go for that

there no ssd option for this type of tablet except I can go for other brand that has it but brand name reputation is like in the bottom line

the one with 500GB 7200RPM has windows 7 professional 64 bit compare to 640GB 5400 RPM with windows 7 home 64 bit
Both has 4gb of memory and expandable up to 8gb.

is win 7 professional really the same as home? I never used it so I have no idea what the differences are.

the 7k one is defiently worth it as this is usually a standard RPM speed

however, depending on ur budget they make a hard drive called VELOCORAPTOR which are capable of up to 10k RPM and 500g max

a little more costly but u can basically dl shit, swap, backup, server etc blazing fast.

7 professional basicly allows a mode called windows xp mode. so its a window that emulates xp for programs that wont work with windows 7 but did on xp.


7200 rpm is going to increase ur read/write speeds.

iirc velociraptors are only 3.5inch? meaning no laptops

but they are overpriced

the rpm means the rotation per second it is the speed of the hard disk head move speed mostly there are 1800 rpm
