If Apple can fix it, you can too!
If I have understood correctly, this is your problem:
- Itunes shows error 1611 while in restore mode, trying to restore
If you're lucky, you can fix it in a couple of minutes.
Try this (Windows):
- Uninstall iTunes and Quicktime form your computer (via "Add and Remove" in control panel)
- Delete every folder associated with these two programs. Remember this one: c:\documents and settings\ACCOUNT NAME\Applications data\"Apple Computer" and the one called "itunes music", usually found in "My music"
- Restart your computer
- Reinstall iTunes
- Try again to restore the iPod
This solved the same error message for me.
If this doesn't work, you can to try to change the battery (ifixit has a guide), and resolder the terminals. I have however not done this myself, and you might want to search the internet on guides for this.
will try. any other suggestions?
