no. It's a necessity for weak people who want to believe in something/someone that can crush them

Well, humans seem to have an insatisfiable thirst for knowledge. What we don't know, we find out. And in the somewhat large chasm of information that we can't find out, we either fill with our imagination, conform, stick with what we've been brought up with, or seek something that agrees with our morals.

With that being said, most certainly yes.

Of course not, as no lie is a necessity to anything. To be honest, to end most fighting and disagreement on the planet, or to take the next steps into using science to figure out our places in this existence, it would be a necessity to rid ourselves of religion all together. But that will never happen, for people who can't cope with reality need that one tangible string of hope that there is something bigger out there - and those people stick to their beliefs so strongly, that they end up pushing them upon others who want nothing to do with it.

I think it is a necessity. E.O Wilson wrote some stuff about this you should look him up if you are actually interested

I feel strongly that people have great moral and social well-being without the need for religion.

i dont think religion is for weak people, or at least not always, but mainly for people who need hope. and hope brings them to faith.
