what was BEFORE the big bang?

i know the big bang is only a theory, but lets say it actaully happened, what does the theory state what was before the big bang, like if the universe existed etc

Nothing. The theory only examines the time from t=0 (universe begins) to now.

I don't know if this theory helps with the what was before our universe question. How was that universe that created ours created? An infnite unending chain of universes? My answer sounds a lot like Richards dawkins answer to what created "god"? A more powerful god? Then what created that one? Etc. Etc.

Anyways I don't think we will ever know what happened before the big bang, because there was not a before the big bang

Yes, in a way the question violates the domain. Just like : What was your favorite color 10 years before you were born? or If you have 5 apples is distribute them evenly between your 0 friends, how many apples does each friend have?

I never understood it much myself. Everything was all compacted together and it finally just exploded. They say the universe will expand and contrace over and over.

I don't think that's a very popular theory.

Big Bang was quiet a theory but it's a pretty goofy one.
