This is not a definitive list. Actually im just looking for some peoples opinions and ideas on the subject.

Thought it might be interesting, to see some of the engineering marvels of the industrial revolution!
My submission to the first round of ideas is

"The Forth Rail Bridge"

Some key facts -

First major structure constructed from steel.
55,000 tons of steel
18,122 m³ of granite

Cantilever Style bridge.
2,528.7 metres in length (8,296 ft)

Finished construction 4 March 1890

The best and most popular entrys will make it into a poll at a later date. Any structure you think is an enginering success, feel free to share

Pont du Gard should be in this list. 50 km long with 23 cm/km recline. In the first century B.C.

Other suggestions:

Great Wall, China
Pyramids at Gizeh, Egypt
Taipei 101 (huge buildings in high earthquake regions often don't fare so well)
Pantheon, Rome
My own country's Delta works
Bell Rock Lighthouse
Hoover Dam

Im sure that first one is in norway? Absolutely incredible. I remember watching a documentary with richard hammond on superstructures

Its amazing how much of it is actually underwater^^ Incredible achievement for engineering!!

Im talking 1800 onwards. If it were, "of all time" maybe it would be too vague.
Could end up as re defining the ancient wonders of the world. ;3

Are we talking greatest engineering achievement as in a structure/building or just greatest engineering achievement in general?

Because things like the invention of the Airplane, automobile are among the most revolutionary engineering of the modern world.

I would say recombinant DNA technology needs to be one of those 10.

Any individual structure that surpassed the level of its time....

The car or the airplane, are of course historical achievements, but they are too vague in nature. Im really meaning individual projects/buildings/structures

This is a technology achievement rather than an engineering one. Its probably genetic engineering? A great discovery but again its a little to vague and abstract.

An engineering achievement, in the sense of this thread. Is something you can see. Something made by man, that changed a landscape, and marked a place in history.
