People with this symptom usually live until 13...

they know what the cause of it is at the genetic level, so there are treatments developed/being developed. Its a point mutation of the LMNA gene, replacing cytosine with thymine; it doesn't influence the transcription/translation process, but the change in the gene causes the splicing out of something like 50 extra base nucleotides
