According to IGN they are going back to Gears 1 roots.

Holy fucking shit, looks great. They've got the movement speed closer to Gears 1 it seems, looks like it will have the face paced elements aswell as the tactical shit going on. God damn it looks beautiful, execution mode is going to be insane. I hope they come up with an actual CtF instead of that stupid shit with carrying that fucken guy around. The trashball arena map looks sick
