You will often get aggravated by how bad and unbalance this game is. But when you are "good" as I previously stated, these crap don't occur often to you.
For example. You have 1 life each round. If you die, you wait. All of these game type is like this except Guardian, Annex, King of the hill, and submission. Also, the least popular gametype.
Since you have 1 life, you really don't wanna die. Easy way's to die are from Chainsaw ( sometimes BS because depending on when the player decides to rev up his chainsaw will determine if he gets stun when getting shot or not ). 2-Piece ( Punch to stun, auto lock aim and shoot and kill. ). Frag Grenades ( explosive, normally 1 hit kill and they can be planted in hidden areas ). the almighty scorcher ( flamethrower that reaches 200 miles with incredible stopping power ). And the scrub hammerburst ( scrub weapon. )
1. There is a huge host advantage. I can't stress it any further, but having host is a HUGE advantage.
2. 2 Different starting weapon which makes the game unbalance. Lancer and Hammerburst, Hammerburst is stronger than Lancer. A team of pro lancers vs a team of pro hammerburst, the hammerburst will win 100% of the time. There was a reason
why in Gears 1, Hammerburst was a weapon you can pick up from the fields, and not a starting weapon ( If I remember from watching ).
3. There is a HUGE gap from DECENT/BAD to GOOD/SEMI. I mean it when I say a huge gap between decent and good. If you are good, matchmaking is a breeze for you. 2.0++ K/D ratio should be a breeze even with all the drawbacks of the game: host, cheap ass weapons, scrub hammerbursts, and weapons that should be fixed but wont get fixed.
4. Play MLG setting, it is 10x much more fun knowing that you won't get rape by scrub weapons. The host on private games are more balance then they are in matchmaking, MUCH MORE BALANCE.
IF you are GOOD at the game, you will break 1.7++, even better, 2.0++ if your even better at the game. Matchmaking when you are "GOOD" is only for fun, basicly screw around and still crazy positive. There are more kids who trash talk in this game than Halo 3 because of the fact of host advantage. I get called out for host / host bridge just about every game. It's fun cause you can prove them wrong by leaving the game. And the ones who say you host bridge doesn't know how host bridging works. Then they call you out for 1v1 their host and they end up saying that you have no life cause you beat them.
If you don't have the patience to get good or learn how to get good or don't get aggravated. Don't get this game if you want it to be a "i just wana play for fun" because it won't be fun. It's only fun when you are GOOD.
If you want to have fun, go play Halo 3. Halo 3 has a ranking system that depicts your actual skill level and puts you into a team equivalent to your actual skill, making it fun, making it possible to get better from mistakes.
Gears 2, there is no system that seperates you from the true skill. So you either get picked up by bad kids and play against decent kids. Or you play against all decent kids. There is a huge gap between bad and decent, so you really won't learn much
and it WILL get aggravating since you only have 1 life per round and you will most likely die right off the bat.
By playing MLG ( only available through Private game, or as known as custom game ).
MLG get's rid of all the BS weapon. Frag, Scorcher, Boomshield, Gorgon, Mortar.
Because MLG used to have hammerburst as starting weapon, it is still considered a MLG playlist ONLY on GB. But MLG themself rid hammerburst because it was very OP and makes the game boring.
I assure you that MLG private games is 700x better than matchmaking, but that means you need to pull off 2 teams ( NORMALLY composed of 4 ) and then you would cycle host after running a full set map.
Don't let anyone else convince you that this game is bad. Their all scrubs.
