How much res do you need to counter a auradin? Are they stacking fire and lightning damage? Are the conviction auras stacking? How do they work I never made one.

If it is a dual aura build with dreams / HOJ + Dragon they would be on conviction themselves. Assuming the worst case scenario of lvl 25+ conviction: conviction is -150 all res, hell is -100 all res, and HOJ is -20 fire.
in order to "counter" you would need 325% total lightning resist (to hit +75 with all modifiers and no additional max resist on gear) and 345% fire resist to do the same.
Absorb would also be a way to mitigate damage (but putting on absorb would be considered bad manners, as would stacking resist above a certain point) - if you have stacked resist then flat absorb would be best, such as the flat light absorb on T-Gods belt. If you are weaker on res then % absorb from something like a wisp projector or dwarf star will help more.

Most aura dins also use charge and rely on their auras added damage to their attack, but it still does decent physical damage depending on their weapon type. So to counter their physical damage, max block, decent FHR (ideally 86%), and some physical damage reduction such as Shako COA, stormshield and or fade. The max physical DR you can have is 50% so anything over that and it wont matter except vs things like amp damage or decrep curse.
Countering them with armor if you are a barb is viable, but if they run with angelics (and the help in -armor from conviction) they normally don't struggle to have a decent %hit.

an example from a melee characters perspective:
43% phys DR from SS + Enigma
Max block
Res stack from UM'd Kiras, P diamond in SS, possibly wep / ammy / rings and inventory
Increase max res from things like T gods and Hot spurs
Absorb from T gods and or something like the rising sun amulet (flat absorb because res stacked, if lower res rings would be wisp + Dwarf star)
Alternate choices:
things like a WW Sin can run fade, which adds phys DR and resists, so they would go dual claw for claw block instead of SS and still have good phys DR. most of the time they would also go dual UM COA if this were the case, and have max phys DR.

now is this a max damage build in either case? no, but they won't kill you.
