exit in this context refers to the straight line path thats perpendicular to the outward direction of the tile. it does not refer to the actual exit towards the next area.

in that last example, the exit (straight) for that tile is down and left.

im most cases, the exit direction for the starting tile is always straight. from there, the way to the next area is left, straight, or right.

there are some cases where the exit is not straight, as in that catacombs example.

it's not even helpful to know what the exits (next areas) look like. you just need to know which direction to go in from the initial tile.

if you misspoke and you mean exit as in the next level or area, look at the maggot lair example. the chest is your 'exit'. the initial tile exits up and right. going straight in maggot lair 3 is the same as going left at catacombs 2. they both take you to the desired location

I'm confused about the third picture where it says "" vs "". which one of these two is the right interpretation? from my experience it looks like the first image is good interpretation, but in that area the way is usually left, so the second interpretation, even though give the same answer, is the wrong conclusion because that area's path is not "straight"

I would go with that assumption as well.

the only way to know for sure is to look up the individual tiles themselves. thats because the tiles can range in size. you have to use 2 programs with the LOD client to extract them out... it looks like a pain in the ass.

i did find a list of all images for area tiles used for speed running however (sadly tower is not included).

the only point I'm making with the image you pointed out is that if you find out you went the wrong way, your next best guess is the second interpretation.

i think you totally understand it <3

im going to have a website up with both directions and all possible starting tiles. something you can use on tablet or on a second monitor while playing. it will probably take a few days and ill update here after

Stoney Field to Underground Passage should be -> follow road
Black Marsh to Tamoe Highlands should be -> follow road
I didn't know about this one, I will have to pay attention next time "Lost City to Valley of the Snakes - Corner N/E/W (NEVER SOUTH)"
also didn't know there was only 6 flayer lvl 3 layout
I think you should add that lower kurast -> kurast -> higher kurast is always opposite side of where you entered
I'll have to test ancient way too
