Armors have a hidden mechanic called armor type. Each base is either light/medium/heavy. You receive a speed penalty from heavier armor and it also drains more stamina:

Light Armor: 0% stamina drain and 0% speed penalty.

Medium Armor: +50% stamina drain and 5% speed penalty.

Heavy Armor: +100% stamina drain and 10% speed penalty.

These armors are light: dusk shroud, wyrmhide, scarab husk, wire fleece, great hauberk, archon plate.

Then it's about the reality of your strength. Choose the highest defense base of the strength you already cover. Dusk and Archon Plate are significantly more expensive than all others. If you wear Thundergod's, for example, you have 130 str anyway and can easily chose a Great Hauberk.

Also, you might want to consider style. Dusk looks a little poor on most characters, most Palas avoid it. Archon Plate (light) and Sacred Armor (medium) look great on a lot of characters. Check this: https://i.redd.it/r41tjn4d7yy61.jpg

Realistically, you either use Archon and tweak HP, or you use Sacred and tweak defense. Nothing else really compares to those two. There are some close armors like Kraken, but it's really just an appearance choice to use it over Archon, which is lighter and doesn't come with penalties or require more Str.
