Thinking about going full cold for my PvM sorc. She’s currently hydra/orb which is has been fun.

I would be using good gear of course (fathom/nw/etc)

Frozen orb does not need many skills to max its damage, which is why its used in hybrid builds.
Making a pure cold with frozen orb and using another cold skill defeats the purpose.
Just use blizzard skill with glacial spike and ice blast as your secondary skills if you want to go that path.

Whole reason I want to change is hydra orb is mana intensive and I need an insight merc. I want my merc to use eth reapers/fort and have dps

Classic blizz is too basic for me, wanted to try something new

nvm him he's completely clueless. blizz + orb works really well ever since they changed the cooldown interaction. you can now interweave blizz and orb casts, which gives you way more aoe dps than a pure blizz at the cost of slightly lower blizz dmg until you reach a high clvl

I still wouldn't say it's worth it if you're farming areas with low monster density, since aoe dmg won't be as effective there
