Note. Find Item % has diminishing returns after about lvl 14. This means that in the setup described below about the item changes that you will not be able to reach Find Item 95%, but only 77%. These comparison calculations for the items will have to be recalculated with respect to this but the graphs are still correct. Another note. is that only hard points into Find Item's synergies will increase its chance.
Hello!
I was interested in learning about the most efficient character in the game at finding uniques and all arrows pointed towards the Barb Pitzerker due to his high mobility, fast kill speed and, of course, the skill Find Item.
In my search for the ultimate Pitzerker, I found a guide somewhere that mentioned that the Heart Carver with 4 to find item and 4 to find potion is a decent poor man's alternative to the 6 isted cs or pb, or Alibaba.

This brought up the question:
Given that increasing your listed MF% has diminishing returns on the chance to find uniques, and given that Find Item haslinear returns on the chance to find additional items from a dead monster, then at what point does allocating inventory space towards increasing the skill level of Find Item and Find Potion result in a greater chance of find uniques over allocating that inventory space towards increasing your listed MF%?

To answer the question we must first estimate the MF diminishing return equation based on the following chart:

Unique MF% therefore follows the formula: y = 55.359ln(x) - 180.05 where "x" is your Listed Magic Find %

To calculate your unique MF% with Find Item %we can simply take your unique MF% "y" and multiply it by your Find Item %. If you have a 100% Find Item chance you will double your unique MF% chance.

Next,we must discover what the equivalent MF% would be to having a listed MF% AND Find Item %. That is to say, if I didn't have Find Item, what MF% would I need to achieve the same unique MF% chance?
We use our formula "y = 55.359ln(x) - 180.05" and solve for "x" given "y = Listed MF% * Find Item %"
Picking 66% to be my Find Item % we get the following equivalent MF% chart:

With this method, we can map the equivalent MF% for various degrees of Find Item %. Each line represents your equivalent MF% at a given Find Item % and at a listed MF%. The results are the following:

By drawing a horizontal line through the chart, we can easily see equivalence points between your Find Item % and your listed MF%.

Unsurprisingly,at higher levels of listed MF%, it is much more effective to increase Find Item % than it is to increase listed MF%. What was unclear when I began investigating this is whether or not your inventory space can get enough MF for it to become better to invest inventory space in Find Item and Find Potion.

Key Findings: see note in bold at the top
It turns out that a Pitzerker barb with 800% MF, wielding a Grief and 180% MF 6ist sword, and who maxes out Find Item and Find Potion and reaches 77% Find Item % with Battle Command,is better off at using the 6 isted sword, over using something like Heart Carver which would increase the Find Item % to 85%.

However, the results suggest thatit is better to use two SoJs instead of two Nagel rings! Your listed MF% drops from 800% to 740% but because two SoJs increase your Find Item % by 4 percentage points, then your equivalent MF actually increases from approx. 11.240% MF to 11.500% MF. And this does not take into account the increased killing speed as a result of increasing all your other skills by +2! This also suggests that Arach is better than Goldwarp although the GF% is very nice there.

Furthermore, if we look at the inventory slots for charms, it becomes clear that, if we swap the Nagel Rings for SoJs and we are 740% MF and 81% Find Item then it is better to sacrifice 3x 7mf sc slots or 21% mf for a Warcry sks gc which increases your Find Item % by 2 percentage points! So, if we substitute 21 7% mf scs for 7 warcry skillers, we lose 147% listed MF but we increase Find Item % by 14 percentage points, from 81% to 95%. This means that we went from a 740% listed MF with two Sojs and an equivalent MF of approx. 11.500% to a listed MF of 593% but with an equivalent MF% of approx 12.500% due to the 7 warcry sks gc. Again, this does not even take into account the damage increase due to Berserker's synergies.

Thanks for taking the time to read these findings over, I hope this will help you decide how to build your dream Pitzerker Barb!
Also feel free to let me know if you spot any errors, I haven't actually tested this out in game but I used maxroll.gg planner to map out the build.
Cheers!

How do you get to 95% success on Find Item?

I'm running a 45 Find Item Pitzerker and it's still only 78% success change (including Find Potion synergy)

The diminishing returns are worse than you think.
That doesn't mean Find Item is bad (it's still best for rune drops), but you're missing something here I think?

WC charms also do not affect the damage on Berserk with synergies, since synergies only grant benefits from hard points.

Thanks, I mentioned these factors in bold at the top, because you are 100% correct on these points. The equivalent mf vs find item % chart at a given listed MF is still correct I believe.

When you switch out the mf for sojs/warcry GC, aren't you missing out the mf on your kills?

Yes, I think it's all being taken into consideration. The second table mentions the 'real unique MF%' and also the Unique MF with find item, which is basically the real unique + 66% of the real unique MF (which would be 1.66 * real unique MF). So it considers the real unique MF for the kill + the find item MF.

But it seems to me that it's considering that you get also the synergy points when adding points to WC, or am I wrong? You mention 7 warcry GCs adding 14% find item chance, and by the later levels, find item barely adds 1% chance per point. I think it's a nice thing to keep in mind, and something I myself have never thought about tbh. But not sure how much the calculations here help in a practical way if the conclusions are based on the + skill points from items adding to the synergy values as well.

Also on a side note, this calculations all consider that you will hork all monsters you kill. Some barbs do that but you may take that into consideration if you for some reason don't hork all enemies you kill.
