I have been using the process explorer trick to run 4 D2R: https://forums.d2jsp.org/topic.php?t=87558045&f=148

And if I find it useful to play on 1 account while the other accounts are almost away from keyboard (AFK) for things like split mf runs, annis and baal runs, or BO barb.

I have 2 questions:

1: I have heard that it is a bad idea to run more than 4 D2R at the same time on the same PC because battle net does not like having 4 battle net connections from the same ip. Complicated tricks like a proxy would be needed or something.

Is that true?

If safe to run 8 D2R on same PC: my GPU (RTX 3080) would possibly be enough, however my 32 GB would likely not be enough? Would 64 GB be enough?

2: Would it be possible to run a total of 8 D2R spread on 2 computers (4 D2R per computer) on the same router, without risking a b net ban and without very advanced computer tricks that I could fail to consistently apply correctly?

1: No need for proxy trick. I have 3080 with 16 GBs and can run 4 clients but it’s not the smoothest. Perfect for D Clone hunting, but you’ll need a little more GBs like you mentioned if you’re actually playing. 64 GB should run 8 just fine/overkill

2: I have 4x Computers set up.. two 3080 with the 16 GBs and two more cheap computers. I run 12 clients no problem and have never been banned for anything (I really should get more ram but hasn’t been a priority)

Wow that's amazing for anni hunting or increasing player count on baal runs: 12 D2R on one router! No issues with battle.net temporary bans? Have you been doing that for long or just a couple days?

So you run 3 D2R per computer for 4 computers, total 12 D2R?

So apparently the thing I heard about max 4 D2R battle.net connections at the same time per ip (one computer) is not really true. Do you have any idea why someone would think that? Are there other limitations to going from 4 D2R to 8 D2R on 1 computer which I am not seeing?

Second question: could my home theater PC (HTPC) bought last year run 4 D2R on lower settings? Everything there is new and decent (CPU = i5-11400, 16 GB RAM, and a SSD), except the GPU which has been recycled from a previous PC (GTX 1060 6 GB).

Temporary bans are a thing of the past! Super nice we don’t have to worry about that anymore

I’ve been doing this since the beginning of ladder! Finally decided to get into the multi client per computer. It’s great for D Clone.. just need to rush each account to Act 1 hell. And same if you want to increase players count. Lots of tricks you can do

4 accounts each on my nice computers, and 2 accounts each on my weak computers. But yeah. 12 total! A lot of the guys in my D Clone hunting groups do over 25 accounts. I’m a small fry these days. (I could easily bump my numbers if I had the $ for ram and more accounts)

Back in the day you use to be limited to 8 accounts to one IP I believe (I’m more new to the scene).. and then you would need tricks. But with D2R it’s very much streamlined and no worries. Benefits of the modern time

The biggest thing holding back computers is ram for D2R. Obviously you want a nice graphics card too, but yeah, ram is the king. I would get your 8 accounts and upgrade your ram.. then test your theater PC and see what it can handle
