I know that when you gamble an item, it has +5/-4 character level and you generally want to be at the minimum specified ilvl for an affix spawning if you want it. I've also heard that there is some sort of complicated formula which makes circlets have +3 ilvl, and some other bonus for coronets/tiaras. Can anyone explain how circlets are different? I'm only interested in circlets.

I just want to know if i am doing something wrong.

For example, let's just say i just want to ensure that the "Magus" mod which requires ilvl 29 to be able to spawn but nothing higher preferably. I'd need to be at least level 33? to ensure this would spawn, but from what i've heard circlets mean i could be lower level to gamble this.

The item level must equal a certain number in order for certain mods to proc.
Circlets/tiaras/diadems/coronets are considered 'head jewelry' not helms which makes them somewhat special as they are considered +3-5.

If you are just looking for a magic circlet with magus, you would have to either find it or gamble it since using 3 pgems rerolls the item to ilv30.

The best bet is to find out which mods you want and find the highest ilvl requirement and start rerolling from there. I do believe circlets are +3 in that regard, so a char lv of 26 would suffice but lv29 would be best.

Ty for the reply. I'm trying to gamble a 20 frw/20fcr 2 os circlet. Magus has the highest affix level - level 29. So does the normal +5/-4 character level gambling variance not apply because circlets are head jewellry? Does that mean they just get a flat+3 when gambled? Or does that not apply and that is why you are suggesting a level 29?

I've always used the 'whatever level the suffix/prefix I want, I gamble with that level' since gambling rarely goes below the characters level.

20frw/20fcr/20s (20s in a circlet is pretty rare)

May I ask why you are looking for these 3 mods on it?

HC Dueling.

2 os is definitely rare. Spawned much more infrequently than other stuff.

I'm trying to reduce the # of possible affixes to increase my odds of getting the helm. Its like 1/5000 with the optimum ilvl lol

I would say have a level 29 character gamble for circlets.

Using pskulls/soj rerolling would not be efficient due to how rare those mods would be and the 50/50 of 10s or 20s.

sorry, just to confirm since i apparently shouldn't do theorcrafting late at night.

Circlets gain +3 ilvl providing the total ilvl is above quality level(24) right?

Does the normal gambling formula of +4/-5(I think this is what is and i mistated this in my OP?) apply when gambling circlets, making it +4/-5 + 3 or is it just +3 when you gamble a circlet? example Gamble circlet with level 30, is the circlet's ilvl spread ilvl 28-37 or is just ilvl 33?

Turns out according to https://d2.maxroll.gg/d2planner/ there is just an optimum level spread to gamble this. If the formula is just +3 when circlets are gambled i can land a character at the best ilvl for it, but if its +4/-5 +3 i can park it an optimal level.

Sorry for the additional questions and thank you for the replies

When I used to mod and ilvls popped up, circlets/tiaras/etc would always be my character level when gambling. Not sure how that works in d2r but that's how I always got my diadems/etc for 2/20/xx/xx/20s
