You have 2 options, I think it’s not too bad to play es or at least 50/50 build in d2r since mana burn is fixed

Anyhow I would aim for something like this:

Infi
Viper 5-5 or shael
Griffon 5-5 or shael
2 sorc 20 fcr amu
Arach
Frostburn
Soj
10 fcr ring with adds like life mana resist
Wt boots

Merc:
Treach/forti
Insight or a5 merc with 2x plague for 40% lower resist proc when struck
Guilli/andy

I would personally aim for es sorc with insight merc, the a5 one is mad fun but infinite mana with high es is rly good

Thanks for the resposne :)
Is wielding soso THE way?
I was thinking about infi@merc and me geared up with ormus/estucha/griffon all with facets, spirit arach mara 2x soj silkweave to boost my mana and cta/spirit on switch
I've never done nova before, so my question might idea might be stupid

well the -55 light resist infinity gives that doesnt work when ur merc is wearing it is an absolute gamechanger

people tend to forget that conviction aura vs immunes only works at 1/5 effectiveness

so the 85 resist from conviction removes 17 resist vs immunities, but after removing the immunity the -55 resist from infinity will work at full 100% rate

so imagine if a mob 110 light resist, if ur merc wears infinity and you only have a griffon the mob will have (110-17) - 25 from griffon = still 68 light resist

which means ur 6k nova does 6000 * 0,32 = 1920 dmg

but let's say you have 5k nova dmg while wielding infinity then that same immune monster has another -55 resist = 13 light resist

then 5000 * 0,87 = 4350 per nova which is roughly 2.3 times as much dmg, even though your on screen dmg is lower.

getting as much -res from gear is the most important thing to focus on on a light sorc (or any light char)

ormus is awful
eschuta is awful

disregard those as options.

aside from wielding infinity yourself, you can also go this route with an infy merc:
crescent moon
spirit
griffon
viper/eni if you can compensate for the fcr loss
arach
frosts
silkweave/mf boots/sands
sojs
fcr amu/mara

without insight merc you'll have slight mana issues. silkweaves help with that. all in all though, infinity with an insight merc is the better option.

note that % bonus light damage on sorcs only adds to your lightning mastery, not your total damage. so 15% from ormus or 20% from eschuta is not the damage boost you'd think it is

I like the idea of wielding infinity on the sorc herself and wearing viper magi, taking advantage of the -55% enemy lite res. I think this is better for light immune monsters as you explain. but eschutas/HOTO is better at killing non-immune.

With infinity you are giving up 6 lvls in nova compared to eschutas + enigma + spirit. For non-immune monsters, eg cows you already bring them down to -65% with eschutas, and with infinity down to -100%. I believe the greater base damage with eschutas outweighs the lower res with infinity.

All in all, still prefer infinity on sorc so you can have an insight merc.

Obsession would also be viable with an ES/nova base— the weaken proc is especially good for cows and other physical attack monsters.

it doesn't. math has been done hundreds of times and it tells the same story every time

additionally, the few cases where you don't benefit from additional - enemy res, you're already insta-killing those mobs. what slows down your clear speed is broken immunes, and a few additional skills does next to nothing vs - light res against those
