yes in classic you dont want to dual wield on the barb, so sword and shield would be good for pvp with it against melee/ranger classes, and you can take shield off when dealing with magic classes, i guess exec is good due to this capability? compared to other weapons. but im not a pvp expert so this is just theory

in pve martel is the best by far due to high dura compared to lance and high dmg compared to exec/ancient axe. martel also allows for the titan style builds to be storng due to getting 1.1% dmg from str as opposed to 1.0% dmg for non mace class weapons
