I've never made a HC Barb on expansion before. What is a viable budget build and gear?

I see the Immortal King's set looks nice on Arreat Summit but I never see any high level barbs glowing.

It's difficult and you can't expect to do hell mode befoer having better than average equipment.

And even with that, the right boss monster pack can ko you. You're going to have to assess the boss packs and pick off one and one while kiting and healing up. If you have the best of the best gear, you may be able to tank and kill most boss packs without much concern, its just that one boss pack with the right mods and that bypass all the defense checks hitting 10 times almost simultaneously. So even if you have the best runewords and all that, 4000-5000 hit points, you can still get unlucky. And you must be prepared for that if you want to play aggressively. Most people just buy gear for fg, play recklessly and then die within a few days... if you want to be a suriving hc barb player, you must be at least somewhat defensive, even with the best gear.

This I know, I've been playing HC classic and decided to try out expansion. I now need 50% more resistances to cap out and all the gear that I would consider godly in classic, does little to no damage in expansion.

I got myself the IK set so I can comfortably run through everything in nightmare. But because it has cold damage, most mobs explode on death so it's not good for MF.

IK set is typically good enough for nightmare but will not be good enough for hell unless specifically set up in the other slots, and charms.

Yes you are probably referring to find item. You'd have to use another weapon. Bonesnap is something to check out if you can't afford or don't want to use the high end runewords. It can be upgraded too. I guess we're sticking to 2-handed maces too.
