Just wanted to throw out a quick 0.02 as a frequent fireclaw player for pvm duties like what your looking for.
First off on a bear, you honestly dont need block or any dr.When a hc player is telling you that whoa hold on, you dont need to "gimp" your damage to fix what's percieved as needing to have all these defense/durability stuff (50%dr, max block w/shield) you should take note. You have access to
shockwavewhich stops basically everything in its tracks. Yes, that was worth bolding. This is one of the best crowd control skills in the entire game. It means you wont need dr, because your not getting hit. It doesnt matter bears have terrible block, you dont need to block anything. As a bear you have the gift of huge life above and beyond most of the other classes in the game, ie your not some fragile little sorc who will get toasted with a bad port into nasties. So whats that mean? Damage. Get a fat two hander and go to town. Elect to not go with 4fpa, because it means you'll also add phy damage into the mix, which means your not left fustrated using one of those crappy robo phaseblades when your trying to kill some fallens and anything thats immune. Want to run some chaos runs? (oh right you went robo wep, to bad for you) Big games?, p8 leading a group like the first post says? Forgot about that if you went the phaseblade route. Remember, if it takes more then one hit to kill fodder monsters, it doesnt matter that your swinging at 4fpa. Two = 8fpa while I killed it in 6.
Two great 2h weps to consider both hit at 6fpa.
Etomb -->best . You get the bp on the standard zod 2X-40/15's 90 with ias jalas, loh's, highlords and nos.
Botd Giant Thresher --easier then the above to obtain.(needs much more oias) I get the bp using Ik gloves/boots nos/Highlords ias jalas
Ink pointed out to me another time one of these pvm fireclaw bears came up, and mentioned a Jewelers or the Whale armor with facets/ias for bp would also have merit.
example ;
fireclaw and all to synergy. , 1 point how , 1 shockwave 1 point lycanth. (its pvm and your using ss skillers) SS skillers. highlords/gores/fort.
3-9K physical (etomb runs about 2K-12K) + 50% ds + 12K fireclaw damage. With merc -85 fire res. Over 30K crits? yes please.
these are adding somewhere in the neighborhood of 9K-12K average physical damage per hit.
Etomb
botd GT
Fort vs coh.
+2 adds some fire sure, no doubt about that. How much more? like 500 extra fire damage when your at 12-15K already?
300%ed on fort means you'll get a few extra thousand phy damage if your using the above options.
Two many people neglect the physical aspect when they create their characters. They say oh look, fireclaw doesnt add to physical damage , so lets just hit max speed.
Between the high level maul attack that you can keep charged up while using fireclaw along with bearform itself, fort, might, how and potential ed/ias jewels while getting doubled half the time from DS, it translates to a whole lot of physical damage. The benefit of having a character who has two high forms of damage make the pvm experience a whole lot more enjoyable.
With a hammerdin in your game? LOL you do the most damage in the party now. (there's always a hammerdin in your runs)
50K crits are possible.
and does the speed really offset the damage?
12K fireclaw on a 4fpa = 72K dps.
12K fireclaw+12K phy on 6fpa = 96K dps
Is your phase blades really making up the difference of 24K? I think not.
