Introduction: This is my first real pvp guide I write after helping allot of people posting questions in d2jsp LLD forum. I hope that I can help people with building their low level duel chars. I started low level dueling in the 3rd ladder period. My first low dueler was the level 18 zeal-charge, I was instantly hooked. It’s a shame I started low level dueling that late (I play since the day Diablo II came out in stores). I had some trouble with my paladin because I didn’t know allot about lld and what the do's and the don’ts were. I hope this guide will be useful for both newcomers and established lld'ers.

Goals: 1) get your char hell boosted and quested
4) stat your paladin
3) skill your paladin
4) get your items
5) compete whit other lld’ers
6) have fun in public duel games
How to reach goal 1: You will need a friend to help you with this, or a loader so you can do it yourself.
Your friend (or you in case you use a loader) must boost you, and you need to find someone that needs to do his Baal quest (for normal and nm you need a char that wants and needs to do his Baal quest).
If you kill Baal for the char that needed the Baal quest and you are partied standing in act 5 you will get the quest 6 completed then you go to the next difficulty. In each difficulty you need to complete the following quests: Den of evil, Radament, Golden bird, Ruined temple book, Izual and Anya. This is to boost your base resistance and give you extra + skill and + stat points and that is essential for any real lld char.
Goal 2 stat placement: this is a very simple to reach goal. Because your gear doesn’t give much variations in requirements and +stats gear.
Stat placement:
Strength: enough to use your items (highest requirements will be your helm or shield)
Dexterity: enough to have max block (this is essential, YOU NEED MAX BLOCK!)
Vitality: all stat points after you have enough str/dex
Energy: none
Goal 3 skill placement: there is only 1 variation in skills possible. Will you boost your might or your sacrifice?
zeal: 4 skill points
charge: 1 skill point
might: 6/18 skill points
sacrifice: 6/18 skill points
if you go for might you'll have 18 might/6 sacrifice
if you go for sacrifice you'll have 18 sacrifice/6 might
I went for might because I use charge allot and might will also boost charge.
If you don’t go for charge (because it takes too much mana so isn’t very useful) you'd better go for sacrifice, zeal will benefit more from sacrifice.
Your items: The big choise of this build: What wapen should I use?
There are 3 possibilities:
The first, Cleglaw's tooth. Imo best choice because it gives 50% deadly strike, with all those jewels/charms you will have adding to damage deadly strike is much more effective than any high damage weapon. It also gives you extra % attack rating.
The second popular choice is 6 socked superior military pick, socked whit 15+ max damage jewels or min+max damage rare jewels.
The third popular choice is: 5 socked war scepter with +3 might +zeal/charge
all these weapons have base speed of -10 and will get the same attack speed.
Helm: 3 socked mask/crown socked whit 15 max damage jewels
Armor: twitchthroe socked whit 15 max jewel (for block/ias/str/dex)
Shield: 4 socked heraldic/aerin shield with 6x% ed / 1xx ar, socked with max damage jewels(heraldic is best if you use a crown, you'll have less strength to spend and will give you extra dexterity needs for max block, use aerin shield if you don’t have a crown)
Belt: deaths belt
Gloves: deaths gloves
Amulet: angelic's
Rings: angelic's
Boots: Cowkings boots
there is no other gear that will do for a lld 18 zeal charger. Any compromises made will result in a less effective paladin/ineffective paladin.
Charms: all your item slots should be use by 15 life small charms (preferred with 2e mod: def/ar/resistance/elemental damage)
or 6 max damage / xx ar / 15-20 life grand charms or a combination of both
in stash:
mana grand charms (for if you duel a char you can only reach whit charge)
hotspurs (for in pub's vs. higher level fire sorcs)
resistance shield 4x+ all resist socked whit max damage (if you need resistance, you'll only need resistance in pub games imo)
Dueling vs. lld’ers:Because there are almost no variations in duel style all duels can be done whit the same techniques.
Start of whit a charge, then zeal.
If your 1st charge lands you'll have a much higher chance of winning the duel.
One technique I also have to mention. If you are taking many hits and your life is getting low, charge away (dodging other attacks) and attack whit charge (repeat when you take more damage, taking damage = full mana pool,
angelic's)
there is one char you need to approach differently: level 18 bone necro.
Bone necro is the only char I dueled doing non-physical damage. That will result in a mana pool that doesn’t refill when you take damage. Zeal doesn’t work vs. necro's because if you come close they will start walking and zeal will not hit them when they walk away. The only effective attack is charge. Switch your mana gear on and good luck charging. (mana drinking in 1v1 lld is considered bad-mannered)
Having fun in pubs: Take some mana pots and attack all chars you can. With this build you can slay level 30-50 random chars with great ease. my highest 1 on 1 kill is a level 80 char. just have fun and get allot of comments like: Cheater, ooh your good, What you use?? what weapon you have?? show me your items!!.
The fun part is, when you show them your items they say it sucks
