played this char back in original d2 and i'm thinking of making it again on d2r.
i heard that they made a5 mercs much stronger now.

i remember that the only thing hindering the a2 merc was if there was a phys immune and i solved it by keeping the gavel of pain in switch for the amplify damage charges (sadly only 3 charges) but later swapped to spellsteel that had decrepify charges but also teleport charges to make repositioning easier.

are there new tricks to solve this issue in a more passive way?

please ignore stuff that can destroy corpses like tomb reaver or anything with cold damage.

Use brand bow runeword low req on switch, tele in, get hit whole screen amplify, unlimited charges. People who say its crap are clueless lol

I use a a2 merc with coa andys (15/39) and aroic needle. On swap on barb I run gavel for amp. It's like 30-40 sec runs

thank you for the tip, that's an interesting solution for sure. i assume i would also need enigma in order to teleport.
right now it's way outside of my budget since i'm trying to keep the shopping on jsp at an absolute minimum because otherwise i would lose interest pretty quickly.

You can find with needles for cheap in game or other places. Got a pretty decent on for a Jah. 15/38 in it to

Enigma or teleport charges 25x on amu or circ, so can eq wealth armor/ i m using this build atm still better then gavel of pain imo, brand also lvl 14 amplify way better radius

Definitely better, but thats an expensive solution to a GF problem. I just pay the act 4 guy and be on my way.
