Have'nt played in a while and am curious as to the reason why many guides/recommendations suggest vipermagi & crescent moon instead of hoto & enigma in a nova + es mf sorceress?

Because you need to hit the 105fcr bp with infinity self wield.

and if I use infi on the merc? is that just worse?

yes, for dmg self wield is better

for budget the cmoon build>

Infinity -res doesn't work for you with merc. You have to use if on your sorc.

nova sorcs self wield infy so they can use insight mercs. meditation aura makes you unkillable.

cmoon is for lightning sorcs and budget novas


e: as for why you wouldn't use hoto on a lightning/nova sorc: you won't do any damage. all your actual damage comes from - enemy light res, which hoto doesn't have.

Thanks. I'm pondering whether cmoon or hoto is better for farming as I do not have an infy for self wield.

And why would one prefer vipermagi instead of the strength-boost from eni which allows you to put way more points into energy?

the highest str req on a nova sorc should range from 43(viper) to 81 (eth sands)

you're likely not putting a single point into str. you do however benefit a lot from the fcr, the mdr (very effective with ES), the poison res and the RBF slot.

if you don't have a low req infy yet, I strongly suggest getting one asap. until then use cmoon for massive damage. hoto is garbage

Nova damage isn’t even important. People recommend like a Magefist 3/10 amu setup. I personally would just use frostburn 1x fcr str mana ring and 2/20 mana amu to be much more tanky

The nova damage doesn’t matter at all. Just get as much -res as possible with infi griffon/viper 5-5 so that your static does more damage
