Just lost yet another toon to a disconnect issue, this time a lvl 72 barb on HCCL. It seems like the true enemy in hardcore mode, more frightening than any hell act boss, stygian dolls/black souls, PKer, or hot TP, is the complete unreliability of playing on Blizzard’s servers. How do pro hardcore players do their best to circumvent this issue? Does playing offline help? Or does that require you to be actively logged into your account to access offline toons? What’s the caveat of having to login every 30 days with offline play? Is there a way to load the game without an internet connection to make it truly single-player/offline play?

Any insight and strategies works be appreciated. I play strictly Classic and Hardcore Classic/hccl so I’m quite used to having a pretty lonely d2r experience anyway.

Well. It is an issue. Today i am lucky to have such a stable server, never one issue the last 5 years, or maybe once, but that's tolerable.

Try to communicate with your network provider perhaps?

I'm not sure i know what you're asking about offline, did you know there is single player in d2? ^^ Which requries no offline play, but also lack mulig options, severely limiting the gaming experience.

Back in the day when i had slightly more unreliable internet, i used to take it veeery slowly, killing monsters that appeared quickly and just taking my time. So that if something happened, i was relatively safe. Just never rush ahead and make sure you are overleveled+gear at all times so that you can survive for 10-20 seconds if lag should happen.

The biggest enemy in HCCL is loneliness.

Yes playing offline helps
In fact many ppl/streamers do this because of the dc issue

If you are going to do hc use extreamly strong build:

hdin vita
ww barb
windy druid
summon nec


dont ever use an es sorc on hc if you do just set any hours you invested on that character on fire.

if you play soft characters do it on single player...


as other users have mentioned hc is lonely because so many start on a ladder then the chars die and you have a terrible time trading for basic items.

basically there is 2 kinds of players on hc:
dumb ass streamers and they always die because lol - its like going to a nascar race and hoping to see a wreck
then vets with decades of experience
a good way to see if a build can handle hc is teleport into a mob then assume you will exit the game in 45 seconds. if the build cannot stand being beaten on for 45 seconds in our example d/c test dont even make it. also do it n hell mode in chaos and make sure your merc has the best gear possible....

My full Tal set ES sorc has been killing Ubers on HCL tho. Merc is using Insight btw.
