1. Introduction to MLD

Mid-Level Dueling (MLD) is the level 49 dueling bracket, with Wind Druids allowed to level up to 65 to use Enigma. This bracket emphasizes Faster Run Walk (FRW) with only Windy and Sorc's teleporting. The ruleset is designed to ensure that every class has at least one competitive build capable of winning a 1v1 tournament. Tournaments and duels typically take place on the Europe Realm.

2. Introduction to the Sorceress Class

There are several Classes at MLD that are naturally stronger then others. The Sorceress Class has multiple Builds, i.e. (a) ESFB (b) VitaFB (c) ESBlizz (d) VitaLight, (e) EsLight (f) Nova (g) BowSorc (h) Orber. The List can go on. An ESBlizz is one of the Top Builds in 1v1 and with BO can be regarded as the #1 most annoying sorc to duel vs. All builds have their strengths and weaknesses, but a ES Blizz is unanimously regarded as horrible to play vs.

3. Breakpoints

FCR: 105% FCR
There is really no reason not to use 105% FCR so its the only FCR breakpoint we care about.

FHR: 42 or 60 FHR
While you can play with less FHR, from experience the best breakpoints are 42-60FHR, especially vs skilled players.

4. Items

Spirit or Orb?

This is more of a costing / pricing question. If you can afford a GG orb, go for it, but Spirit is cheap and inexpensive and is great bang for your buck. Long Term you want a 2Sorc 20fcr 3Blizz 3 Mastery Orb, or one with 3 Cold Skills

ES or Vita?

When it comes to choosing between ES and Vita, I find that the more GG gear you have, the more you gravitate towards ES. That is the simplest way of explaining it. In D2LOD Blizz Sorc's had a problem in that they were too squishy. Take one hit and you had to off screen forever to Rep Mana. No More. We changed the ruleset to be: Max Blizz, Max 1 Point Ice Bolt, Max 1 Point Glacial Spike, Max 0 Points Mastery. While you can get Cold Mastery from Orb, what this rule effectively does, is provide a tonne of support skill points which you will drop into warmth. We then adjusted the rules (Resistance Limits) which has resulted in a ES Blizz Build which is very tanky and is far more enjoyable to play with.

Helmet

1. Magic 3Cold 20FCR 2soc
This is the starter Circlet and is brilliant bang for your buck. We banned Cold Facets so you would use x2 GG Jewels here (FHR/STR/DEX/Mana or Res)
2. (rare) 2Cold 30FRW 20FCR 80-90mana
The standard Cold Circlet. Thankfully not so uncommon anymore. If you can find one of these with Resistances, stats or the dream, 2soc, great.

Armor

1. Vipermagi
You will use this virtually always, a GG Stat Jewel works well here.
2. Hustle
You can experiment using this vs a Druid but if played well, Vipermagi will do just fine.

Weapon

1. Spirit Crystal/Broad or Longsword.
35FCR 112mana 8abs, great. Use this only if you are in a hurry to build your character.
2. 3Cold/20fcr/3Coldmastery (Magic) or 2Sorc/20fcr 2-3Mastery/3Blizz
When you go Orb Route, I recommend Lidless "ELD" for maxblock (solves alot of FCR issues)
3. A perfected 3Cold/20fcr/3Cold Mastery/3Blizzard/1-3 Thunderstorm/60mana/2soc circlet
Dare to dream ok !

Shield

1. Whitstans
The standard shield, you can put another gg jewel here.
2. Lidless
This can be used for Caster Specific duels or as main shield (maxblock) in combination with an Eld Rune when using an Orb.

Swap

1. Memory +CA +3ES, bonus is to have +Enchant as well

Amulet

1. 3cold/10fcr
Starter Amulet. not too shabby.
2. 2cold 10fcr 40-60life, 70-90mana. Long term you are looking for Rep Life / Stats and Resistances on top.

Gloves

1. Frostburns
The one and only. You will use these almost always
2. Magefist
These can be used when you are playing Vita (in Sorc v Sorc or vs Light Trapper)

Rings

x2 Stone of Jordan
+skills and a mana boost, yes please

Belt

1. Crafted 10fcr 24fhr 40-60life
Your looking for as close to 60 life as possible here, and then ideally with either 9str (max for level) or 5 repl (again, max for level)

Boots

1. Waterwalks
Gives you everything you really need
2. Crafted Mana or Repl Boots
I have not used this, and did not use these in D2LOD either

Resistance Gear

Sorc's almost always wear Vipermagi, and in conjuction with Anya thats 65 all Resistances. Duels are completed in normal so all you really need is +10 All res. This can be acquired via a jewel, a mod on amulet, or even from a couple of charms. TLDR: ESFB does not really have resistance problems.

5. Charms

1. x10 1Cold / 30 Life
2. x10 20life/ 17mana
Note that 1Cold/29life and 19life/17mana can be used respectively if your on a budget.

Thats basically a perfect inventory.

6. Stash Items

(a) Lidless (if using Whitstans for max-block).
(b) Thundergods.
(c) x3 - x6 1Cold 6str Grand Charms.
(d) Ring 10fcr 15Str 90Mana.
(e) Wand or Circlet with +Str.
In conjunction with Str Items this should enable you to wear Thundergods which you need vs a Light Trapper.
(f) x6 20life/17mana small charms (in case you have mana issues).
(g) Ravenfrost. This is for vs Druids, but you can play x2 SOJ always as well.

The more GG items you have, the less you will need to rely on additional Life/Mana charms to supplement your Mana Pool. You can also live without a Thundergods setup and instead rely on allies to kill the light Trapper for you in Team Duels.

7. Stats

Enough STR for Gear (Frostburns)
Enough Dex for Max Block
All the rest into Energy

8. GM Rules and Limitations

In D2LOD Blizz's at MLD were horrible to duel vs and it took forever to kill them as they would have to rep to full mana in a corner every time anything him them. Those days are gone. While the build is still horrible to duel vs, it now plays much better. Classes such as Barb and Nec have no realistic chance of hitting a Blizz sorc, which is why we have a time limit rule - Fail to kill these in under 3 minutes and be TKO'd. It works reasonably well.

9. Skills

1 Point Warmth*
1 Point Telekinesis
1 Point Teleport
1 Point Ice Bolt
20 Points Ice Blast
1 Point Frost Nova
1 Point Glacial Spike
20 Points Blizzard

*All remaining points into Warmth

1. Introduction to MLD

Mid-Level Dueling (MLD) is the level 49 dueling bracket in the game Diablo II: Resurrected (D2R). The bracket features Time, Faster Run Walk (FRW), and Skill / Item limitations, ensuring that each class can compete and succeed in 1v1 and Team Duels. Sorceresses and Druids may teleport while Paladins charge around the map and everything else runs. This format is similar to Euro PvP (Early 2000's) and DCL (Polish HLD League in D2R).

The release of D2R presented an opportunity to address several issues that had existed in Diablo II: Lord of Destruction (D2LOD), including:

FRW limit adjustments due to the removal of desync.
Strengthened rules for Druids, who were the weakest MLD class in D2LOD - Windies may now level to 65.
Weakened Amazons, who were the strongest MLD class in D2LOD - Banned Decoy & Valk, Reduced Max Allowed Skill Points in Guided Arrow from 20 to 15.
Redesigned flawed builds, such as ESBlizz, which were too brittle in D2LOD - Reduced global Cold Resistance limits while re-orientated Cold Sorc skill distribution to Warmth.

D2R Patch 2.4 and 2.6 New Additions

The D2R patches also introduced significant changes:

(a) Necromancers and Assassins: Received a massive damage boost.
(b) Assassins: Recast delay on Dragon Flight and Shadow Master removed.
(c) Optimal FHR Breakpoint Limits reduced across across the board.
(d) Armor Runeword "Hustle" Revolutionized the bracket by granting 65% FRW, 40% IAS, and +6 Evade in a single item.

Time Limits

The Damage to Life ratio at MLD is such that it takes less hits to kill an opponent. i.e. 400% enhanced damage weapons and enough skill points to do serious damage, while only two classes have BO ( Druids and Barbarians ). This is optimal especially when noting the FHR changes. We have also adopted fixed time limits for duels and defined "Attackers" and "Defenders" which, in tandem with a fixed time limit of 3 minutes per round in 1v1 and 5 minutes per round in team duels, results in faster matches without protracted duels as seen in other brackets.

Current State of MLD

More than 30 MLD tournaments have been hosted in D2R, including a combination of 1v1 and team tournaments, with every class winning a tournament. We continue to make minor amendments to the rules, strengthening the weaker classes while weakening the stronger classes, addressing past imbalances, and incorporating new elements to maintain a competitive and enjoyable dueling environment.
