Depents, perdonally i prefer sacred armor.

Eth for Merc and non eth for self use. This is mainly for PvM. If you are planning to make some PvP char with Forty then use non eth Archon Plate.

You did not give us enough information to tell you what is best.

Non eth most likely Archon. But any no-frw-penalty elite base is fine. Just matter of style.

i like eth sup ap forti on merc (low str reg, high defense)
and regular non superior archon plate for selfuse (low repair cost, no frw malus, best str - def average)
also cool style

it might be my bias but ap looks the best so i always use ap on any char i use.
