Is there an updated light sorc sorc pvm mf guide with the introduction of sunder charms? Is infinity still needed?

Strictly speaking infinity is not neccesary, but since you want as much -ELR as you can get, is by far the best item for your merc and you don't want to farm in high player games without it.

The guide is the same, just -1 skiller + 1 sunder and some LR/MF smc to cover the lack of LR from the sunder.

Crescent moon builds are more popular now, since, lilke I said -ELR is even more important now that you can break all the inmunities, but HotO builds with the usual gear of griffon/mara/enigma and infy merc will work well.

You can even try with infinity on hand, but this is a lot more common for nova/ES builds (with insight on merc) than for regular lightning/chain lightning builds.

So I am running Infinity on merc and sunder w/ hoto. 6x mf/lr sc. Is a Cresent moon necessary then?

Crescent moon would be better for P8 games or things like Ubers.

But keep in mind you will have a better build that the same build that worked before sunders for the last 15+ years, and you could do P8 runs before with hoto, crescent moon was a bit better for that before too, and now is the same.

So, if you like HotO to have a more rounded sorc in terms of resist and mf (since is easier to use enigma with hoto) go for it, no problems.

just make sure you dont overpay for -elr on your merc infy since it is a useless stat...
