Hello .

I have a puzzlement.
I have a paladin whose attacks are based more on elemental dmg, basically it's elemental without much physical (but still it is).
The question is, if I use open wounds in items and it triggers, does that elemental dmg apply or only the physical part applies to open wounds?
I need a concrete answer from someone who really knows this mechanism.
One more thing, maybe someone knows if when open wounds are triggered, it affects the opponent's fhr
All the best !

E: Forgot to mantion that main attack are charge/zeal .

open wounds is applied when you hit your opponent with a weapon attack. the split between elemental and physical dmg does not matter. the target then loses life over time, which is not affected by dr or resists, but can only be countered by life regen. the frame rate of life loss depends on the attacker level

that's weird, it works perfectly fine for me...
open wounds is based on character level and basically applies negative life regeneration. it is also not triggering hit recovery itself, however the attack applying open wounds may trigger a hit recovery animation

the only 'basic' mechanic depending on your own damage is critical strike/deadly strike (whereas crushing blow dmg is based on your opponent's life)

So, whether you are barbarian, paladin or sorceress, once you have applied open wounds, the only difference in dmg is made by the character level. So in the absence of life regeneration, open wounds will reduce the life of the affected person.

correct. the class itself is only of interest if you consider the chance to hit your opponent with an attack (due to your ar/skills) that can than apply open wounds

Good to know that. I thought that open wounds work like pulsations and when they pulsate they also affect the opponent's fhr. I played wow for a while and things are different there. Now I know that the opponent's fhr is affected only when the hit is made, not by open wounds. I am completely clear. Thank you
